Google Ad Manager Adds Special Icon to AdSense Ads :: Yahoo Search News

Filed under: internet marketing techniques — admin @ 1:24 pm

Yesterday Google announced a new product named Ad Manager. In short, it is a hosted ad management solution, like OpenAds (aka PHPAdsNew) but OpenAds is not hosted. So the benefits of the Google Ad Manager product is that you don’t have to use your server resources to serve up ads, you can use Google’s. You can see a tour of the product, if you are interested.

I actually started experimenting with it yesterday on our forums. The top four ad ads, (first two rows) are served via Open Ads, while the bottom row (last two ads) are served by Google Ad Manager. I selected one ad to show my Google AdSense ads and one ad to show some test banners. Here are the ads that are generated for me now (keep in mind, I keep testing them, so they may change):

Google Ad Manager Special AdSense Ads

Let’s zoom in on the Google AdSense ad:

Google Ad Manager Special AdSense Ads

Notice the little icon at the bottom left of the AdSense ad? It is not clickable or anything, but I think it symbolizes that the ad is served by Google Ad Manager. Why? Because no other Google AdSense ads have that icon.

I will be testing this out in detail and then I hope to provide an easy step by step walk through on how to set up ads that rotate in our blog ad format (which is the typical ad format for most new blogs these days). So if you are wanting to play with it, hold off a bit until I get the kinks worked out and so I can simply guide you through the process (or you can do it yourself).

Of course the discussion about trusting Google, Google owning the world, the Internet and now DoubleClick

Free Publicity From Consumer Funded Media Projects - Profitable Online Panhandling Strategies :: Web 2.0 News

Filed under: internet marketing techniques — admin @ 12:58 pm

Have Your Say!

Insert your message in the next Brave New Films video for $199 - not that I am saying you should, but 5 or 10 years ago it would have been hard to imagine this level of fan integration into the funding, creation, and promotion of documentaries. Where are we going to be in another 10 years? Will this video get 500,000 views on YouTube? Might this $199 be a cheap ad buy for people looking to appeal to this demographic? At that price point it is almost an impulse purchase for O’ReillyGoesNuts.com or BoneUsFoxRingtones.com. :)

Fund Anything

Sites like Kiva allow you to loan to business people in the 3rd world, and offers open ratings on past loan payments. If you are looking to make money in the process, outfits like Prosper and MicroPlace might work too. And Fundable allows you to raise funds for any cool projects or ideas.

Why Your Funding Source Matters

Is it cheaper to get funding and buy ads or grow organically from direct support? Getting capital from a VC may get you some coverage, but it is probably nowhere near as valuable as donations from hundreds or thousands of fans. 4 reasons direct support funding from fans is so powerful are

  1. they minimize risk and create deeper direct connections
  2. participants feel ownership, which creates meaningful relationships and project evangelists who provide emotional support and spread buzz well ahead of your launch
  3. people care much more than they do offering free support (to appreciate how non-committed free support is, hundreds of bloggers talked about the launch of Citizendium, and I donated to the project like a day or two later - and was the first donor to the project)
  4. successful projects show social proof of value as they pick up momentum

Link Building Techniques and Tricks :: Social Marketing News

Filed under: internet marketing techniques — admin @ 6:44 pm

Three recent link building articles have appeared on Sphinn that are worthwhile for link builders. I’ll walk through each of them and explain why they are important.

In Squeezing the [Link] Juice out of Low Hanging Fruit, Bob Massa talks about how hard work pays off. He emphasizes many points but stresses that you should carefully select quality directories to submit to and submit properly. This way, you don’t have to pay for links.

Matt Cutts wrote a post with SEO advice on links in 2005 and published it on the 11th. He suggests that you should become a resource, provide an ongoing service, be valuable, and keep your product open. Quality content breeds links naturally. If you think about it, has much really changed?

Another post is Loren Baker’s explosive organic and paid link building tips. In this post, Loren says that you should aim for relevancy, selective anchor text, and says that you should not be concerned about nofollow. Sometimes, he acknowledges that you may have to pay for those links and you may want to take advantage of new sites to build your links on. It doesn’t hurt and they will eventually age.

Do you have anything to add? Forum discussion continues at Sphinn (Bob Massa), Sphinn (Matt Cutts), and Sphinn (Loren Baker).

RSS Feeds - Right and Wrong :: SEO Times

Filed under: internet marketing techniques — admin @ 1:24 pm

Posted by OliverTaco

My list of RSS feeds is divided into three big buckets - News, SEO, and Politics.  And I happened to notice something pretty interesting.

Where is the Monkey in This Picture?

Here is a screen shot of a blog post we wrote when we launched Digg Friend Finder:

Promote My Site Digg Friend Finder Launch

And here is a post on Instapundit:

Instapundit RSS Preview

Right, we should all have the luxury of a bazillion readers a day who will (like me) put up with stuff like that.  (Note that I am not climbing onto my partial-article-feed hobby horse!)

Who Makes an Effort?

Well, it turns out that it depends on what "make" means:

  • 42 SEO feeds, 126 posts reviewed: 0% mangled text, 65% of posts had a graphic or something visual
  • 55 news feeds, 165 posts reviewed: 10% mangled text, 0% graphics (excepting posted videos)
  • 25 political news feeds, 75 posts reviewed: 25% mangled text, 0% graphics (excepting cartoons and videos)

What’s Up With That?

I think the graphics thing is explicable, but I don’t really have an explanation for not caring that your text is mangled.

Has anyone else thought about this and come up with a good explanation?

Why I’m a Fan of SEOmoz’s Term Targeting Tool :: Yahoo Search News

Filed under: internet marketing techniques — admin @ 1:44 pm

Posted by petrosianii

Intro from Rebecca: Yes, this post pretty much just pimps our PRO tools, but it’s been a busy week and sometimes it’s nice to have a little praise, damnit.

I am a new SEOmoz PRO member, and I have just been absolutely LOVING all the great tools! I especially like the Term Targeting tool, and I’ve used it on my personal site with striking success. I had no idea how un-targeted certain pages were! And for other pages that I thought were targeting certain keywords, I come to find out they really weren’t.

After revising a few pages according to the Term Targeting tool, I then re-checked those pages using SEOmoz’s other great tool: the Rank Checker. I checked the SERPS for those new pages and terms, and I was really impressed with the outcome: modest, but substantial increases in ranking.

As an SEO specialist and CEO of a multimedia communications company, I had been utilizing the SEOmoz free tools with my SEO clients, but that was limited, and I need to do more. So, I finally "broke down" and bought the subscription. I don’t regret it one bit.

These tools really work!

A Survey of Sorts: What SEO Advice Would You Recommend? :: SEO Times

Filed under: internet marketing techniques — admin @ 1:24 pm

Posted by IsRobot

I was thinking, "If there was one bit of advice that would stand me in good stead for my SEO efforts, what would it be?" This inspired me to try a little experimental poll. I realise I myself am not adding any content of merit here (I just don’t have the experience to do so), but I think that the answers of the community here will more than compensate. That being said:

1) If there is one bit of advice you would give about SEO right now, what would that be?

2) If there is one bit of SEO advice you wish you’d been given (say, in the last couple of years), what would that be?

3) If there is one thing you wish your clients understood or did not ask of you, what is it?
